Living Well Together: Education, Law and the Common Good (6th August, 2026) brought together Professor John Inazu (Washington University in St Louis), Dr Mahtab Janfada (University of Melbourne), Dr Anh Nguyen Austen (ACU), Anthea Hancocks (Scanlon Foundation Research Institute), Rabbi Zalman Kastel (Together for Humanity), Brother David Hall (ACU) and Professor Lidia Xynas (ACU) for a public conversation about how people with different beliefs, values and worldviews can live well together in a diverse society. Hosted by Australian Catholic University and chaired by Professor Larissa McLean Davies, the symposium explored dialogue, disagreement, peacebuilding and the role of education, law, faith communities and civic institutions in supporting the common good.
The conversation examined how trust is built across difference, how institutions can support respectful engagement in times of social and political division, and what it means to pursue human flourishing in a plural democracy. Bringing together perspectives from education, law, religion and community leadership, the event highlighted the importance of worldviews literacy, intellectual humility and constructive dialogue in contemporary public life.
